“Biography”

First of all, if you are planning at any time to insult this site or me (Allyson), the creator of this site and everything on it. You should definitely read on. Also, if you want to know anything at all about this site, how it came to be, and me (again, Allyson), read on.

I am not Panicked. Panicked is not a direct reflection of who I am.

Panicked is simply a website and a project of mine. A job, if you want. I opened this site because I got tired of seeing 14 & 15 year old kids plaster their absolute junk all over the internet. I decided to focus on Myspace stuff because it is, afterall, the biggest thing online right now. I created Panicked as a challenge to both myself and to the visitors who happen upon it.

I am most definitely an intellectual 20 year old girl, and I do not conform to the typical internet child. I was not raised with computers and I didn't have a computer until I went into the 7th grade. Before then, I was utterly dedicated to the fine arts. I was always in some sort of love affair with painting, drawing, sculpting, photography, film, or some other form of art. Computers and the internet simply gave me a whole new medium to conquer. It also opened up a whole new door to business possibilities and success that I never thought could exist.

There have been dozens of sites before Panicked. There have been personal sites, portfolios, blogs, and, yes, a resource site or two like Panicked. But, never before have I hit such a jackpot as I have with this little endeavor. I went from being happy to see 10 people on a site of mine to, right now, being disappointed to see anything less than 150 at any given time. This does not mean that each visitor is simply a number, a click, a few dollars to me. No, I do care about what this site has to offer and what people get out of it. But, I also want people to get more than just a Myspace or Xanga layout. I want this site to be more than just another doomed-to-crumble website following the trends and depending solely on popularity.

Granted, I base my layouts around current trends and what is popular. But that is a necessary compromise I learned to accept through the making of this website. I enjoy knowing that a few people are able to recognize when I am passionate about a certain design or project and when I am simply filling a slot in another trend cubby. Because, whether it is an obvious trait or not, I am someone who has a strong tendency to mock popular culture and society in general. I, myself, do not follow any trend in my everyday life. But, I am more than aware of the fact that most teenagers would be lost without trends to be their crutch. Their identity.

I strive to insult people who are utterly secure and confident in their individuality. I thrive on knowing that I am able to point out that a trend is a trend is a trend is a costume is an act is a facade is yet another little kid running around trying desperately to find her/himself. I believe that young people these days often need to be reminded that they are just that, young, children. That they, in no way, rule the world quite yet. They may have control over popular culture and they may someday be in leadership positions or even roles where they define society. But, while they are 12-15 years old, they are still standing under adults who actually know something about the world and right and wrong.

While I honestly appreciate praise and the fact that lots of people love Panicked. I have never been one to yearn for absolute popularity and fame online. Panicked was and is meant to be a site created for the elite few who know what is good design and what is, pardon my language, shit. It is meant to be an example of how something as silly as Myspace can be used to further someone's talents and even provide some source of income. Myspace is, by no means, my life or even any noticeable part of my life. Creating graphics and designs for Myspace users has become a job for me, and I do not let it get to me when I am not working on a particular project.
